"MERLIN" Season 1 - an Entertaining Series at BBC

The legendary story of Merlin revolves around King Arthur, the city of Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table. Merlin was almost always presented as an old wise, magician and King Arthur as the King.

In this new drama series presented by BBC, Arthur and Merlin are both young and still not the powerful characters that the old movies had shown. There is drama, humor , action and adventure all rolled into one. The author had injected light moments and it gave the otherwise serious story an entertaining, juicy twist.

I watched the first episode “The Call of the Dragon” and I was hooked, sinker and all. It was a story of how Merlin (played by Colin Morgan, 22, from Armargh, Northern Ireland), started as a young, impetuous boy and how his path crossed with that of Prince Arthur’s (played by Bradley James, 24, from Devon).

Uther Pendragon, Morgana, Gaius, Nimueh and Gwen are active participants in this new series. They are played by equally effective actors which made the series even more interesting.

It was quite different from the books and movies I have previously watched. It was a fresh concept about an old story, and I immensely enjoyed it.

The succeeding episodes were equally thrilling and adventurous as well. When I was done watching season 1, I can’t wait for season 2. The different and unique approach to the story has made it a show worth waiting for.

We've spent some Saturday night hours watching this. It was good, even though it deviated so much from the legend that fascinates me.
