Bible Verses that Offer Comfort to the Grieving

A grieving person needs all the support and love relatives and friends could give him. If you happen to know of someone who is in grief, you can use Bible quotes to comfort him. To help you in your noble endeavor, here are some Bible verses that could comfort a grieving person.

From Matthew 5:4

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

This quotation denotes that if you are in grief, you would soon be comforted, if you have faith in God. It means that grief is temporary, and that God would ensure that you would overcome your grief. Grief is also a part of life, and should be endured, but God has ensured you that you shall find comfort in him.

From 1 Thessalonians 4:13

"But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope."

This verse is referring to people who are not aware that those who have passed away are considered as sleeping, so those who are left behind should not wallow in misery and grief.

From Psalm 121:2

“My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”

This is one of the powerful verses in the Bible. You can use this verse when you need comfort and strength. You can also use it to comfort a grieving person. It indicates that God who is omniscient and powerful would help anyone come out of any worse situation that he is in; be it grief, helplessness or despair.

From Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Overcoming grief is a Herculean task if people do it alone, but if people do it with the grace of God, then they can. If you are in grief, you can rely on God’s healing power, too. Nothing is impossible with a powerful God.

From Psalm 27:14

“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
This meaningful verse from the Bible talks about waiting patiently. If you are grieving, the Lord will strengthen you in his own time.

From I Peter 5:7

“Cast your cares upon the Lord, for he cares about you.”

Just as the verse says, you can surrender all your grief and problems to God and he will take care of you. Trust him with whatever concerns you have, and he will help you overcome all of them.

From Isaiah 35:4

“Be strong, do not fear; your God will come.”

As prophet Isaiah said, in your grief and fear, you have to endure and be strong; God will come to ease all your grief and burdens. You can help people overcome grief by quoting this verse and explaining its meaning.

The Bible is an exceptional book because it gives solutions to all problems. As the saying goes: “If you do not know the answer, read the Bible.”
